Character sketch

I present my grandmother as a symbol of love, care and affection. She is a highly religious and conservative lady but, a woman of generosity and nobility. she is like everybody’s grandmother, loving her grandson immensely and caring for them with deep love and concern. She is not physically attractive. She is old, thin and short with a stoop and hobbled about the house with her hand supporting waist, reciting her prayers and telling her beads. In the village, she is actively involved in her grandson’s life but when they shifted to the city, the bond of friendship was broken. Yet, she presented she presented a picture of peace and contentment always.

Her love for animals is reflected in the way she fed the dogs and sparrows. She did not like the English school but, never interfered. She accepted every decision of her grandson regarding his life with a calm and composed manner

Hidden from sight

“What?!“  I  exclaimed  at  the  police,  ”What  did  you  just  say?”

“I  said  I  want  you  to  catch  the  runaway  thief,  I  thought  I  made  that  clear.”

“I-I  can’t,  I  haven’t  trained.”  making  up  an  excuse.

“Training  starts  5:00  A.M.  tomorrow,  this  is  important  because  only  you  can  do  it.”  he  replied  gesturing  to  my  necklace.  That  necklace  allowed  me  to  turn  invisible  and  return  at  will.  “Thank  you.”  he  handed  me  a  pair  of  handcuffs  and  just  like  that,  he  walked  off.

“But-”  He  was  long  gone  before  I  could  say  anything  else.  I  pedaled  home  quickly  to  tell  my  mom,  surely  she  would  reject  the  plan.  I  was  wrong…

My  name  is  Karina.  The  incident  happened  on  the  day  after  my  eighth  birthday.  Right  when  I  blew  out  the  birthday  candles,  I  wished  I  could  become  invisible  and  reappear  whenever  I  wanted.  The  next  day  I  received  a  necklace  from  my  grandma,  that  came  with  a  note.  It  read:  “You’ll  be  able  to  disappear  and    return  at  will.”

Ever  since  that  I  really  was  able  to  seemingly  vanish,  and  within  a  few  days,  everybody  knew  about  it.  Ever  since,  everyone  has  now  called  me  “Vanisha.”

My  mother  couldn’t  think  of  anything  better  than  helping  the  police  catch  a  thief.  ”You  should  be  honored  Karina!  Come  on,  go  to  bed  early,  you  don’t  want  to  be  late  for  training!”  Mom  pushed  me  up  the  stairs  and  tucked  me  into  bed.

“You  need  to  wake  up  early  to  train!”  Mom  singsonged.  Luckily,  the  lights  were  off,  otherwise  she  would  have  saw  me  trying  to  roll  my  eyes  even  further  up  into  my  head.

“BRING!  BRING!”  My  alarm  screamed  from  beside  my  bed.  I  wrapped  a  pillow  around  my  head  trying  to  block  out  the  noise.  I  slammed  my  hand  on  the  alarm  and  looked  at  the  clock.  I  was  almost  late!  I  got  dressed  quickly  and  hopped  on  my  bike,  I  rushed  to  the  police  center  to  get  there  on  time.

Then  in  the  corner  of  my  eye,  I  saw  a  blur  of  color,  it  was  the  thief  trying  to  steal  money  from  the  bank.  The  thief  cautiously  looked  around  and  dragged  out  a  bag  of  money  from  the  bank.    I  willed  myself  to  turn  invisible.  Carefully,  I  tried  to  sneak  up  on  the  the  thief  as  quietly  as  I  could,  but,  I  tripped  on  a  stone.  Assuming  that  he  hadn’t  heard  anything,  I  pulled  out  the  handcuffs  at  the  exact  moment  he  turned  back.  He  gasped  and  tried  to  grasp  the  handcuffs  that  seemed  to  be  floating  in  mid  air.  “Vanisha!”  he  yelled.  I  rolled  my  eyes,  even  the  thief  knows  me.  He  suddenly  yanked  off  my  necklace  and  put  it  on.  He  immediately  became  invisible,  but  he  forgot  rule  number  one:  Clothes  are  an  exception,  however  everything  else  is  still  visible.  Although  he  could  not  be  seen,  I  saw  a  bag  of  money  in  the  air.  I  went  to  the  police  station  and  called  for  help  and  we  searched  for  the  thief  to  hunt  him  down.

Meanwhile,  the  thief  had  no  idea  that  the  money  was  visible,  he  thought  he  was  safe  and  he  didn’t  know  why  he  received  odd  looks  from  other  people.  He  even  stopped  by  the  cafe  to  get  coffee.

“There!”  I  yelled,  spotting  the  bag.  The  police  charged  for  the  invisible  man,  seized  him,  and  pulled  off  the  necklace  and  handed  it  to  me.  I  put  it  back  on  and  quickly  forced  the  cuffs  on  his  hands.  He  glared  at  me  as  he  was  dragged  away,  ”You  haven’t  seen  the  last  of  me!”

I  smirked,”Yes  I  have!”

10 Amazing Fashion Hacks You Need To Know

1. Hate deodorant marks on dark clothing? Who doesnt. But there’s a hack for that… and it doesn’t cost money. All you have to do is take a part of the inside of your clothing and rub it on the outside of your outfit (where the deodorant mark is) and just like that it’s gone! Nothing too crazy.

2 Get rid of armpit stains with lemon juice and baking soda. Both are natural bleachers and easy to use. All you have to do is squeeze a lemon (or lemon juice from a bottle) and water onto the stain and rub it in. Or to get out a tougher stain, you can create a baking soda and water paste and apply it to the armpit stain. Then just let it sit for around an hour and toss it into the washing machine. It’s as simple as that!

3 Have makeup stains on some of your awesome clothing? Easy, just apply some shaving cream before washing.

4 If you have a cute-shoes-but-too-tight-for-my-feet problem, all you have to do is wear large socks while blow drying the area that’s too tight.

5 As soon as you notice a small hole or run to stop it with hairspray and clear nail polish. This is an easy fix.

6 De-wrinkle spray for clothing is apparently a thing now. All you need is 1 tsp of conditioner, 1 Tbsp of white vinegar, and 2 cups of water. Put all of the ingredients into a spray bottle (which you can get pretty cheap at the store), shake and put it on a mist setting. Lightly spray wrinkled areas, lay it down smoothed, and let it dry for a little bit (should just be damp). Then you’re ready to go!

7 Keep your dark wash jeans dark by adding distilled vinegar in the wash. When I buy jeans, I buy dark jeans (preferably black). They go with everything.. until they start to fade. Thankfully there’s a hack for that.

8 Wait a few minutes before putting on freshly ironed clothing. When they cool down, the smoothness will set in, and you’ll be wrinkle free for the rest of the day.

9 Use alluminum foil instead of a dryer sheet, Dryer sheets have bad chemicals in them and by using foil, you can still cut out the static while saving money (since it’s reusable).

10 Use vodka and an essential oil to get rid of smells on your outfits. The vodka has well.. It has enough alcohol in it that it helps to disinfect your clothing, and the essential oil gives it that awesome scent.

Girl on a train

The infamous Mumbai local train has the ability to make people shudder merely on the mention of its name. However, if you want to travel from one end of the city to the other (north/south), there’s no faster way to go. From a tourist perspective, riding the Mumbai local also gives a unique glimpse into daily life in Mumbai . The local rail network is the lifeline for many commuters in Mumbai — it transports an astonishing eight million commuters per day! Unfortunately, everything you’ve heard about the Mumbai local is probably true! Trains can be extremely overcrowded, the doors never close and constantly have passengers hanging out of them, and people even travel sitting on the roof.

However, if you’re feeling adventurous, don’t miss taking an unforgettable trip on the Mumbai local. Unlike commuters in most other cities and countries, where travellers are often engrossed in their phones, commuters on Mumbai’s local trains, over time, strike up conversations and build relationships. Given that they see each other every day for hours at a time, such relationships are in a way, inevitable. It is not uncommon to find groups of commuters singing their favourite Bollywood songs or playing cards as they wile away the time. In the “ladies compartment”, a coach reserved for women, many celebrate birthdays by passing around cake.

Groups of men in the “general compartment” are also known to sing spiritual songs using small hand cymbals called “manjiras”.

Gossip is common, and almost nothing is off the table. People discuss their in-laws, moan about “office politics” and share salacious Bollywood stories.

These journeys bring people from different backgrounds together every day and they share a common goal: they want to reach their destination on time and alive.

Cold Storage

Gerald Sidney was a very wealthy man, but all the money in the world couldn’t help him now. He was dying and there was nothing more the doctors could do for him. They had tried their best, but their best wasn’t good enough.

“We’re going to freeze your body, Gerald,” the doctor told him. “You will be placed in suspended animation. Hopefully, some day, medical science will have advanced far enough to be able to heal you. In the meantime, your body will be cryogenically frozen and kept in cold storage.”

When Gerald woke up and opened his eyes, he found himself lying on a bed in an unfamiliar room. There was a man standing over him. A tall man, dressed in a shimmering, multi-colored robe.

“Welcome to the future,” said the man.Gerald coughed and cleared his throat. “Who are you?” he asked.

“I’m your descendant,” the man replied. “You’ve been asleep for a long time. You’re my ancestor. It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“What’s your name?” asked Gerald.

The man smiled. “My name is Blargh,” he replied.

“Blargh?” Gerald repeated. “That’s a funny name.”

“Not really,” said Blargh. “Gerald is infinitely more amusing.”“And what do you do for a living?” Gerald asked.

“Living?” Blargh looked confused. “I don’t understand the question… Oh you mean work… No, we don’t have that anymore. The robots do all the work now.”

“How convenient,” said Gerald. “What year is it?”

“30 ADL,” said Blargh.

“30 ADL?” Gerald spluttered. “What the hell does that mean?”

“30 years after the Dear leader came to power,” said Blargh.

“Who’s the Dear Leader?” asked Gerald.

“Oh, he’s our leader,” said Blargh proudly. “And he’s the greatest leader the world has ever known. He single-handedly united all of the countries on Earth. All hail the Dear Leader.”

“Where are we?” Gerald asked.

“We’re in a bunker, approximately one mile beneath the earth’s surface,” Blargh said. “Quite a change from your time, I imagine. It’s too hot for anyone to live above ground now.”

“Keeping me in cold storage all this time must have cost a fortune,” Gerald said. “Did my savings cover it?”

“I’m afraid not,” said Blargh. “Your savings ran out about 100 years ago. I had to pay all your debts when I had you revived.”

“Well, thank you,” said Gerald. “That was very kind of you.”

“Think nothing of it,” Blargh smiled. “It was my pleasure.”

Gerald tried to get up, but he was too dizzy and instead he slumped back down on the bed with a groan.

“You mustn’t move,” said Blargh. “You need to rest for the heart transplant.”

“Oh?” Gerald sighed. “Is there something wrong with my heart?”

“No,” Blargh replied. “There’s something wrong with mine.”

The clown statue

A girl in her teens babysat for a wealthy family one night. The wealthy family had a very large house with many rooms. It was filled with lots of artefacts and old ornaments from all over the world. As the parents were leaving to go out, the father told the girl that once the she put the kids down, she must go down to the basement, watch TV there, and not go wandering around the house.

Once the kids are asleep, the girl retires to the basement room to watch TV. However, she cannot concentrate on her show because in the in the corner of the room is a life-size clown statue grinning at her. She finally decides to drape a blanket over the statue so she can ignore it. After a while she can’t stand looking at the clown statue’s over-sized feet sticking out from under the blanket. She decides to call the father and ask his permission to watch TV in another room, because she is freaked out by the giant clown statue in basement room.

“Listen very carefully,” says the man to the girl.

“Our children have been complaining about a clown that comes into their room in the middle of the night. We just thought it was nightmares. We don’t own a clown statue. You need to get the kids and get out of the house NOW! I’ll call the police.”

The girl hangs up the phone, turns around to look at the covered clown statue, but all there is a blanket on the floor! She hears steps coming down the basement stairs.

The Flying Carpet

In a simple cottage at the foot of a snowy mountain, there was a mother working as a weaver. Every week, the mother would bring the carpets decorated with figures of different kinds of birds, trees and flowers to the market and sell them. The money earned would be used to raise her three growing sons. The youngest child was the only one who symphatized with her hardship. Everyday, he helped her collect wood sticks to use as fuel. One day, when the mother was at the market, she saw a wonderful drawing. There was a castle leaning on the mountain, in the middle of flower gardens with the stream flowing around. Faraway on the hill, there were the sheep eating grass. The mother really loved the drawing. She decided to spend all her money on it.When she came home, she hung it at the most special place of the house and enjoyed looking at it all the time. Took the youngest son’s advice, she started to weave a big carpet imitating the drawing. She worked from early morning until midnight to raise the family and finish the carpet. It took her three years to finish the work.

The mother hung her carpet up for everyone to see and they were all amazed by her talent. The scene of the carpet was half dreamy, half truly with the sun shining brightly over the purely blue water and there was also a castle lying in the middle of a colorful flower garden. Everything was perfect! But suddenly, a strong wind flew by and carried the carpet away. After that, the mother was badly sick. She didn’t want to take medicines. But she kept looking at the sky outside the window. The oldest son decided to leave home, heading to the East to find the carpet back. He kept going and going, but never came back. Then, the second son was also determined to go. But once again, he disappeared just like his brother.

Seeing his mother became weaker day by day, the third son decided to start his journey seeking for the carpet. He kept going until he reached a glen. He met an old woman and a stony horse. She told him that the fairies on the shining mountain had borrowed his mother’s carpet to weave their own painting.

To get to the shining mountain, he had to pass several volcanoes and frozen sea with a stone horse. Then, she gave him a bag of gold. She said that she had given everyone who paseed by the same gold bags. His brothers also received the bags but they used the gold to get into the city. They probably forgot about their sick mother who was waiting for them at home. To make the horse move, following the old woman’s instructions, he drew his teeth and put them on to the horse’s mouth. The horse was revived. It carried him through volcanoes and frozen sea and finally to the crystal palace located on a mountain. His mother’s lovely carpet was being used as the pattern for the fairies to make their own  carpet.

The fairy admired the courageous and pious boy, especially the fairy in red gown. They only asked to borrow the painting for one more night to finish their own work. The fairy in red gown secretly embroidered her own image on the carpet. At that time, the boy suddenly felt sleepy and gradually fell asleep.

When he woke up, he found out that he was lying on the flying carpet. It took him home in just a blink. The mother sat up from the bed and asked son to strtch the carpet on the floor so she could see it. Magically, the carpet kept expanding. The details in the painting turned into real things. The mother stood there, speechless, looking at the dream castle, the garden that was full of flowers and fruits, the broad hill, the sheep, everything was picturesque. And the son, he was frozen looking at the gorgeous girl standing on the strand of the lake. They saw each other and realized that their beloved one was right in front of them.

Afterwards, the youngest son get married to the red gown fairy he met on the shining mountain. Their family lived happily in that dreamy castle, ever after.
